JCAFT
PUSHES FOR LOCAL PAY
RAISES FOR
BUS DRIVERS
For the past 18 months JCAFT
Representatives Vi Parramore and Sheila Jones have served on the
Jefferson County Salary Committee pushing for local pay raises for bus
drivers, bus aides, teachers, CNP workers and all other classified
employees.
Very frequently in Jefferson County
mechanics are solicited to drive bus routes because substitutes for bus
drivers are practically non-existent. It is getting harder to attract
and keep good bus drivers as well as substitute bus drivers on their
current rate of pay. Pay increases for bus drivers and bus aides is
essential for Jefferson County.
In Jefferson County, many bus drivers
and bus aides fall within the guidelines of public assistance. The
county’s employees deserve better than this. Now that the tax renewal
has passed successfully JCAFT members are saying that it is time for a
raise! We asked in a letter dated February 13, 2006 to Dr. Phil
Hammonds, Superintendent of Jefferson County Schools, that negotiations
resume that will include bus drivers, bus aides, teachers, CNP workers
and other employees who have not gotten a local pay raises. JCAFT is
waiting on the Superintendent’s response.
